Hello to all of my lovely readers! Hope everyone is getting along with the holiday season thus far! 😊 So, this year when I ventured into trying two of these NYX Lingerie line of quick-drying matte liquid lipsticks not long after their release, I was initially overall impressed with the two shades I purchased! However, I think that my immediate liking of them may have escalated as soon as I had been sorely disappointed with their Liquid Suede liquid lipsticks prior to trying these, and upon comparing the two formulas, due to ill logic on my part, I decided rather too quickly that, since these Lingerie liquid lipsticks were a tad bit longer lasting, I made the immediate, albeit very wrong, mental decision that I liked them. Now? I'm finding that I just don't enjoy wearing them...at all. At least, not this particular shade in 'Bedtime Flirt.'

My overall quarrel with this, as well as reasons why I dislike this particular shade, aren't so much because of the drying nature of this formula or even the shade I chose; not even how much this formula dehydrates and parches the lips (as these are some of the most drying mattes I've ever worn, however that attribute has little to do with my poor rating), it's merely involving how I have to apply this to get it to work on me, at any rate. And that's why, despite the affordable price, this formula is unfortunately a no-go for me, and is deterring me from trying any of the others. As for the other shade I own called Exotic, I view it more favorably than this one, as it's a deeper mahogany red shade, and enjoy wearing it more, even if it's just slightly.

Color & Formula

'Bedtime Flirt' reads as a warm light pinkened nude with subtle peach tones on me, though others read it as a much cooler toned nude. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, yes? This shade is really quite chalky and flat looking on me and there's no depth to it. Case and point as to why I don't tend to gravitate toward the paler nude colors. Much of the Lingerie line is likened to very pale nudes such as this, so that is ultimately why I won't be trying any more.

As to the formula of these, it's like a mousse consistency, not at all thin or liquidy, but not quite as thick and mousse-like as say, their Soft Matte Lip Creams are It actually takes a minute or so for this to dry down completely to the promised matte finish, so the formula is very forgiving in that respect. In all other cases, though, especially in the way it looks after it sets, it's not forgiving in the slightest, unfortunately.

Packaging

The packaging is probably my single favorite attribute of this product. It's a beautiful weighty plastic tube that makes it feel quite a bit more substantial for what it is. The applicator wand is a long double-sided paddle shape that deposits an equal amount of product on both sides and really lends to a more precise application.

Application & Scent

This color's appearance is odd, to say the least. When I apply one coat, there's a brief window of time where it looks beautiful once applied, right before it sets and dries completely. During that time, my lips look full and opaque with color and the coverage is complete, sans any translucency, patchiness or streaks whatsoever. Sad to say, that once it dries, the patchiness and streaky appearance comes out of nowhere. It happens even when I don't do anything to move the product around while it's still moveable on the lips, and there's nothing opaque about the way one layer looks on the lips once it sets, and I must admit that I don't feel comfortable having to wait for a product to dry completely to see what it's going to look like for the rest of the day. I found that with before and after dry-down, it stayed pretty true to color, and didn't do what some liquid mattes do, in that they can sometimes tend to dry down to a shade that's 2 or 3 hues darker. Happy to report that this formula did not do that. 👍

Thus, by default, this only works when I apply 2-3 layers of product, and this formula is certainly not the best at building upon itself. Once dried, no matter if it's one or three layers, it feels quite sticky on the lips, so since a one-coat application is a hell naw for this shade, it still feels sticky after 2 layers and those layers on top of each other just look dreadful, no matter how nourished, exfoliated, and prepped my lips are prior to applying. Eeek.

As far as scent goes, this is an unscented liquid lip product...thank God for that redeeming quality.

So, How Does it Wear?

So, as for wear time, this particular shade lasted up to 2.5 hours max on me, before disappearing completely. I basically had to eat nothing and drink absolutely nothing to manage it to last that long before disappearing, so that in itself was a sore disappointment. The chalkiness of the color became more evident over time, and emphasized every crevice and small wrinkle I didn't even know was present on my lips. Although I didn't have problems with product transfer, which was minimal at its worst, the stuff still managed to fall completely off my lips in other ways.
By nature, I do lick my lips a lot, so if you don't have that tendency, this may last eons longer on you, and it may not. This didn't flake or clump or leave the weird inner ring, it's either all there, or none at all. It just seems to melt off all at once, instead of fading.

Overall Rating

Moral of the story: blech...the dubbed 'butt-hole' lips are not exactly what I would call "cute". This shade gave me that with no problem, and I just wouldn't recommend this to many people. Having to build up the color to get it to work, when it's already a moderately uncomfortable formula to begin with, did not help the product's cause. My overall rating for this shade is a 3/10, with the packaging and the scent being the only reasons why I'm not giving it a big fat 1/10. I may just as well skip the lingerie and keep it nekkid, if it makes my lips look this bad. Eeek. No bueno.
