The Lash Report | Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara Review

Hello, everyone out in the blogosphere! I have to say, whenever I find an affordable, sought-after beauty product that has an average rating of 4/5 on MakeupAlley, let's just say that in some instances, such as this one, even if I tried the product before and didn't like it, well, I'm tempted to think that some products are worth a revisit (ahem, or a repurchase). That was the case with the Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara, and I decided to revisit it, and at the $2.99 pricetag, it's one of the most budget-friendly mascaras I've bought in my life!

The Wand

The brush on this mascara is a standard straight bristle brush, with no curvatures or special design to the shape. The bristles are all cut at the same length, and are separated evenly (theoretically meaning less clumping) and the bristles are softer and less prone to poking the eye than other mascaras I've tried in this price range. The size of the brush makes application ideal for smaller-eyed gals like myself, however I can imagine that this may be a bit of a hassle to apply to larger eyes. This works moderately well as a lower lash mascara as well, as the shape of the brush makes any accidental poking very difficult to do, and it's not at all wide or bulbous.

The Formula

Rich, thick, and quick to dry upon application, but moderately buildable. All three times I've purchased this mascara, upon opening the tube and upon the initial application, I have never recalled this mascara being a wet formula. It is overall a pretty dry formula, which I understand as being either a "love it or hate it" quality. My first two tubes completely dried out on me within weeks of purchasing, so I was then turned off completely from the dry formula, and chucked them in the wastebasket, without looking back either time. However, this was a few years ago, and it seems the formula has been tweaked slightly, because I've had my new tube for almost two months now, and it's still fresh and still applies quite nicely. So no problems there. It's a bit clumpy, despite the brush's even-spaced bristles, but it's nothing a swipe with a lash comb can't fix.

Now, to the color selection: #301 Black is still the only option, and let me just say, it's not even that black. Even against the backdrop of my wintery white skin, this mascara reads very much as a brown/black color, and despite the satisfactory amount of definition and length that it gives me, the color doesn't make my lashes stand out as much as I would like it to. This is true especially if I'm doing a smokier look on the eyes.

Volumizing?

The volumizing properties are a bit meh on this mascara. But as far as length goes, I have to say it does the job! Where I give this mascara massive props, is when I don't curl my lashes before applying: this doesn't make my lashes stick straight up in electric shock, and as long as I take steps to set my undereye area with powder, the flaking from this is actually pretty minimal!

Check it out for yourself!

Overall, this is a moderately comfortable, moderately long-wearing mascara that is also comfortable on the wallet! I do recommend it, and I'll give it a hearty rating of 7/10. Just wish the color were a little darker!
